John Wall is still recovering from his knee surgery, a process he talked about over the summer when the Washington Wizards were in pursuit of Kevin Durant and had just hired Scott Brooks as their new head coach. Wall also talked about the recurring discomfort in his left knee over the last few years. He had both knees operated on after the 2015-16 season.
As Wall looks to complete his recovery before the start of this regular season, Scott Brooks isn’t yet committing to the idea that Wall will be available in the preseason, via Candace Buckner of The Washington Post:
Scott Brooks won’t commit to John Wall appearing in a game this October: “To early to say if he’ll play in any preseason games.”

The recovery timeline for Wall’s operation was said to be several months, so Wall could still be gathering his last leg of full strength before being ready to go. Brooks and Wall have an important first season ahead together, as Brooks has already deemed high praise upon his backcourt, whom he’s also had to publicly defend amidst reports of chemistry issues between Wall and Bradley Beal.
Wall’s formal debut with his new head coach is near, but still unknown.
