With two weeks left in office, calls to remove President Donald Trump continue to grow louder. Following the Capitol Hill riots, members of Congress have demanded that the 25th Amendment be invoked. Leading the charge, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi have been the most vocal in their desire to remove Trump from the Oval Office.
“What happened at the U.S. Capitol yesterday was an insurrection against the United States, incited by the president,” Schumer said.
Calls to remove the President have not been limited to the Democratic Party. Republicans have also criticized the White House’s handling of Wednesday’s riots.
“Here’s the truth: The president caused this. The president is unfit and the president is unwell. And the president now must relinquish control of the executive branch voluntarily or involuntarily,” Rep. Adam Kinzinger said.
“It’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment and to end this nightmare.”
At this time, it is unclear if any members of the Trump administration will push to invoke the 25th amendment. Trump has not responded to any of these calls for the 25th amendment.
