Savannah Marshall will reportedly move up in weight to challenge undisputed super middleweight champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn. The title fight is expected to take place in June at an undetermined location in the United Kingdom. According to a report from ESPN’s Michael Rothstein, the bout’s promotion will be led by Ben Shalom’s BOXXER. More details regarding the date and location will emerge in the weeks to come.
Marshall enters the bout with a record of 12-1 with 10 knockouts. Prior to suffering her first loss last year, the United Kingdom fighter stopped Hannah Rakin to claim the WBO Middleweight Championship. From there, she stopped Maria Lindberg, Lolita Muzeya and Femke Hermans within the distance.
While Crews-Dezurn has not shared a ring with Marshall before, the two fighters do share a common opponent — Claressa Shields. Much like her future opponent, she suffered her only professional loss at the hands of Shields in her debut. Since then, she has picked up eight consecutive victories. In her last bout, she beat Elin Cederroos to claim the undisputed super middleweight title.
Marshall and Crews-Dezurn add to an exciting slate of fights for the sport this spring. In the coming weeks, Chantelle Cameron will challenge Katie Taylor and Claressa Shields will fight Hanna Gabriels for the second time.
