San Antonio Spurs Win 2014 NBA Finals After 104-87 Win In Game 5
The San Antonio Spurs won their fifth NBA championship since 1999 after beating the two-time defending champion Miami Heat 104-87 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Kawhi Leonard led the Spurs with 22 points and 10 rebounds and won Finals MVP honors. LeBron James finished with 31 points and 10 rebounds for Miami.
Miami came out with an aggressive start to the game with 29 first quarter points, including 17 from LeBron James. San Antonio shot poorly but weathered the storm and kept the game within striking range. The Heat cooled off in the second quarter and were only able to collect 11 points to the Spurs’ 25. There were two particular spurts, one from Manu Ginobili (19 points) in the second quarter and the other from Patty Mills (17 points) in the third quarter to lead a 47-point total bench effort from San Antonio.
For Miami, no one outside of LeBron James was able to put up at least 15 points. Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh combined for 24 points on just 10-for-26 shooting. The San Antonio Spurs won Games 1 and 3-5 all by 15 points or more. The recurring theme of this NBA Finals was their relentless and balanced attack, execution, and efficiency.
