Sam Bobrick, the creator of Saved By the Bell has unfortunately passed away after suffering a stroke. His daughter, Stefanie Bobrick, confirmed the news with a Facebook post on Friday. Bobrick was 87 when he passed.
The news of Bobrick’s passing comes just a month after NBC announced that a sequel series to Saved By the Bell is coming to its Peacock streaming service sometime next year. Details are still light on the sequel series but original cast members Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley are set to reprise their roles with Mark-Paul Gosselaar also in talks to return.
Bobrick’s long career began long before he created Saved By the Bell though. The writer is also known for penning classic episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, Captain Kangaroo, The Flintstones, and even wrote the Broadway play, Norman, Is That You?
Saved By the Bell is available on Hulu in its entirety right now. The sequel series will be available on NBC’s streaming app, Peacock, sometime next summer.
