It’s no secret that the Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson will be engaging in intense contract negotiations as Wilson enters the final season of his rookie contract. Wilson is currently vastly underpaid as he will earn 1.5 million in the final year of his deal.

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report is reporting Wilson is seeking to become the highest paid NFL player surpassing Aaron Rodgers contract of 5 years at $110 million. Cole also previously reported Wilson is also comfterable playing out the 2015 season in order to increase his value.
“There’s no deadline, no pressure,” Wilson’s agent, Mark Rodgers previously said on June 8, per Sports Illustrated‘s Peter King. “Russell has a contract for this season, and he is fully prepared to play the season out if he does not sign another contract. It’s early June. They don’t report to camp till late July. I’ve always assumed this contract would take a while to get done.”
“Sometimes, the best deal is the deal you don’t do. For me, there would be a greater disappointment in taking a below-market deal than there would be in honoring the fourth year of a contract,” Rodgers added, according to King.
This contract situation looks like it will get only more and more intense as time goes by. I fully expect Wilson to become the highest paid player as Seattle has little leverage considering he has already won a Superbowl ring. Expect Wilson to top the immense contract Cam Newton received earlier this month, the only question is when the deal will be reached.
