This makes Westbrook’s total current contract six years, $233 million, the largest in NBA history.
Many were wondering why Westbrook hadn’t signed yet, and the reason may be the pettiest thing ever:
Just mentioning for no reason at all not related to anything in the world at all… today is Kevin Durant's birthday.

I mean… I’m not saying that Westbrook was waiting for Durant’s birthday to sign this extension, I’m just saying that I wouldn’t be surprised if Kevin Durant received an anonymous “happy birthday” cupcake later today.
Westbrook had a historic season last year, becoming the first player since Oscar Robertson in 1961-62 to average a triple-double for the year.
This has been a hell of an offseason for OKC General Manager Sam Presti, who practically has the Executive of the Year award locked up.
Presti and the Thunder basically turned Victor Oladipo, Domantas Sabonis, Enes Kanter and Doug McDermott into Paul George and Carmelo Anthony.
