Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has not yet said that he will run for President in 2024. However, he has already picked up an endorsement from Texas congressman Chip Roy. In an email obtained by The Hill, Roy told his supporters that DeSantis was the right man to lead the country for the next four years.
“The next President of the United States must be a vibrant and energetic leader with the faith, vision, and courage to chart a new course,” the email reads.
In Roy’s words, the country needs a leader who will “defend” it and “empower the people against the destructive force of unrestrained government.”
“America needs a leader who will truly defend her and empower the people against the destructive force of unrestrained government and corporate excess, profligate spending, and woke cultural indoctrination,” he continued.
“That leader is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.”
While DeSantis has not yet officially announced his desire to run in 2024, he is expected to enter the field at some point this spring. If he does move forward with his presidential aspirations, DeSantis would join a field of GOP candidates that includes Nikki Haley and former President Donald Trump. Former Vice President Mike Pence is also expected to enter the field later this year.
“We have so many great governors, senators, congressional leaders, business leaders, a former president. We have such a great bench of candidates,” Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said while appearing on CNN.
