The story of Colin Kaepernick continues to be a featured talking point in the media. Kaepernick first started his protest at the beginning of last season. Thousands have come out either in support or against his protest. Today, we got to hear one of the best quarterbacks in the league give his take on the matter.
Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers pointed out why he believes Kaepernick has not signed with an NFL team. In an interview with Mina Kimes, Rodgers states:
“I think he should be on a roster right now. I think because of his protests, he’s not.”
Rodgers goes on to say he personally will stand during the national anthem, but that he will continue to support his teammates who decide to sit or kneel during.
“I’m gonna stand because that’s the way I feel about the flag — but I’m also 100 percent supportive of my teammates or any fellow players who are choosing not to. They have a battle for racial equality. That’s what they’re trying to get a conversation started around.”
Many NFL players have come to the support of Kaepernick, whether it be verbal or kneeling during the anthem like he did. This has caused quite the stir, with many fans calling for boycotts of NFL games.
Right now, there does not seem to be much hope for Kaepernick to play again in the NFL. Owners may feel it too risky to sign him. Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy reiterated this point, saying he thinks teams do not believe Kaepernick is good enough to be worth the distraction.
For Kaepernick to be signed by a team, there would need to be a Tannehill type of injury. Kaepernick needs to show his willingness to play football. We all know what he can do on the field. It was not that long ago when he lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl.
