Fresh off of orchestrating one of the blockbuster deals of the NBA offseason, the Houston Rockets are continuing to search for additional talent in pursuit of a championship. Once the trade for Russell Westbrook was completed, the Rockets went on to add Tyson Chandler and now they have reportedly added another notable name to their frontcourt rotation.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Rockets have agreed to a non-guaranteed deal with former first overall pick Anthony Bennett.

Anthony Bennett was selected with the top pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers six years ago in 2013. Bennett would go on to play only one season for Cleveland and has since made stops with the Timberwolves, Raptors and Nets but has failed to find a permanent team. Bennett’s lack of production has forced him out of the league since 2016 and some perceive him to be one of the biggest draft busts in NBA history.
Now Bennett will get another, and what will likely be his final, NBA chance with the Houston Rockets. While his contract isn’t guaranteed, Bennett will at least get another additional opportunity to show that he belongs in today’s league and that his high draft status wasn’t just an aberration.
Bennett enters a good situation too considering the Rockets are currently a legitimate championship contender and their depth at the forward position is incredibly weak. Bennett can either prove to be a revelation for Houston next season, or this will prove to be yet another failed Anthony Bennett experiment.
