The Houston Rockets are ready to take on D’Antoni-Ball for the first time this season. Armed with James Harden as the primary scorer and playmaker, the Rockets look to be an exciting and offensively-gifted team.
But they may not be at full strength quite yet. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the team is looking to add another ball-handler before the season begins in Sergio Llull.
The Rockets have held the draft rights to Llull, a Spanish basketball star, since 2009. They have been unable to lure him to join them in the NBA for years. But it doesn’t seem like they’re ready to give up just yet.
Llull has the ability to earn a ton of fame and fortune playing for Real Madrid in Spain. It’s no wonder he’s fine staying in his native country rather than making the jump to the NBA.
But the Rockets still want to add the 28-year-old at some point. According to Stein, Llull wants the promise of a big role and a lot of cash, including the money needed to buy him out of his current contract. That buy-out apparently is cheaper than originally thought, making this a possibility in the future.
I personally don’t count on Sergio Llull making the leap at any point. But perhaps the opportunity to make a lot of money and play for Mike D’Antoni is enough to sway him.
