“My life hasn’t really changed much since winning the title,” WBO Featherweight Champion Robeisy Ramirez told Boxing Scene before entering the ring on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan.
“It will change when I complete all of my goals. Winning this belt was only the first step. I won’t feel fulfilled at featherweight until I am the undisputed champion.”
At Ariake Arena on July 25, Ramirez took one step closer to achieving his goals. Moments before Stephen Fulton Jr. and Naoya Inoue met in a highly-anticipated title bout, the Cuban champion stopped challenger Satoshi Shimizu in the fifth round. With the emphatic TKO victory, he improves his pro record to 12-1 with seven knockouts.
Elsewhere in the featherweight division, IBF Featherweight Champion Luis Alberto Lopez is set to fight Joet Gonzalez in September. Meanwhile, WBA Featherweight Champion Leigh Wood is expected to land a U.K. showdown with Josh Warrington later this year and interim champion Brandon Figueroa may be on a collision course with the only person to beat him in a pro bout — Stephen Fulton Jr.
