On Saturday, July 29, boxing will take center stage in the world of combat sports and beyond. After years of trash talk and promotion, Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford will meet in the center of the ring at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. At the end of the night, one man will walk away with bragging rights and the division’s four championship belts. With everything on the line, fans, experts and fighters have chimed in with their predictions for the fight. Among those to predict the winner of the showdown is Ring Magazine‘s Trainer of the Year in 2022 — Bob Santos.
“Spence has been through a lot but he always rises to the occasion. I could see a scenario play out where Crawford outboxes him and wins a decision but I still think Spence will be too big, too strong and too physical for him,” he explained.
However, Santos doesn’t think it will be a blowout. The highly-touted boxing trainer believes that Crawford’s dynamic skillset will make him a tough out for the unified champion.
“Listen, Crawford is a heck of a fighter. Moving back and forth from orthodox to southpaw has produced fantastic results for him,” Santos added.
“I just feel like in the end, Spence’s advantage in size and power will be too much for Crawford. It really is close to a 50-50 fight but Spence has fought the better competition in the division and that could be another key factor.”
