For years the Dallas Mavericks have been sturdy as a franchise. They consistently make the NBA Playoffs even though sometimes they don’t look like a Playoff calibre team.
They are a model of keeping consistent, I would rather make the Playoffs every year than not. But then again, the Miami Heat dipped for a year and now look where they’re at. They got the ‘LeBron’ smell off themselves in a space of a season and have already moved on.
The Mavericks have the offseason to get some new blood, they have a truck load of cap room. But Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle is only focused on rebounding.
“Rebounding is a big challenge. It’s been a big challenge for us all year, so we’re going to have to do a better job than we’ve done, from top to bottom,” Mavs coach Rick Carlisle confessed when addressing the rebounding concerns during the season.
“We’ve got to get some monsters that push and shove, throw people out of the way and go get the ball,” Carlisle explained. “We’ve got to get more of those guys. We’ve got to block out and we’ve got to have five guys going (for the rebound) all the time. And when it matters, we’ve got to get the rebounds.”
Now to be fair they have Zaza Pachulia who had a decent season nearly averaging a double double in points and rebounds but that clearly isn’t enough. Now they were recently connected to Dwight Howard who will most likely be a free agent, maybe the Dwight of old would be a great upgrade but I personally wouldn’t pay max money for him.
Dallas is a great destination for free agents, Zaza can attest, but will they get who they want?
