Who says women aren’t funny?
‘The Other Woman’ follows Carly (Cameron Diaz) a successful lawyer who finds out that her boyfriend is married. When she meets the wife, Kate (Leslie Mann) they team up to do some recon on their lover. When they discover yet another affair, Amber (Kate Upton) joins the duo to seek revenge on the two-timing loser. Basically think adult ‘John Tucker Must Die‘.
Yes the plot is recycled and cliche as Hollywood films go, but it doesn’t mean the jokes more than make up for it. Mann proves she is just as funny as one as she carries the movie. Her constant drunk emotional breakdowns and pitiful hangovers steal every scene. It also boasts has an excellent mix of humor from witty one liners, to gag humor and straight up slapstick.
Sloppy music editing and unnecessarily long montages tend to drag out the films 109 minute run time.
Nicki Minaj makes a cameo that is completely pointless but completely wanted. Be sure to thank director Nick Cassavetes for some gratuitous behind shots that leave you wondering how exactly does Nicki get that butt into all those skirts?!
This is a film that women will enjoy for the plot and guys who got dragged along will appreciate for the eye candy. ‘The Other Woman’ doesn’t bring anything new to the genre nor will it win any awards, but its excellent entertainment value smooths over all its problems.
