Fans of the legendary Hip-Hop group De La Soul have had to deal with a lot in recent years. In 2019, the group was hopeful that their music would return to streaming services with the help of their label, Tommy Boy Records. However, those deals fell through when De La Soul spoke out against their “unbalanced” working relationship with Tommy Boy Records.
Two years later, it appears that major progress has been made. Earlier this week, music media rights company Reservoir acquired Tommy Boy Records for $100 million. After the deal was finalized, representatives from Reservoir reached out to De La Soul and got the ball back rolling.
“We have already reached out to De La Soul and will work together to bring the catalog and the music back to the fans,” the company told Variety.
News of the Tommy Boy Records acquisition reached De La Soul and it appears they are excited for what the future holds.
“Woke up feeling a sense of greater peace of mind,” the group wrote on Instagram.
Hopefully, this story has a happier ending than the Tommy Boy Records-De La Soul saga.
