The Milwaukee Bucks’ experiment with Greg Monroe hasn’t quite worked out. Since signing the talented center to a huge deal, Milwaukee has seen his limitations and have subsequently sent him to the bench.
There have been nonstop rumors about the team looking to unload his contract in a trade and even though Milwaukee is playing well right now, those rumors don’t seem to be stopping.
According to Gary Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times, Milwaukee is still trying to find a trade partner for the big man, per a “league executive.”
This is somewhat surprising news if only because of how the Bucks are playing right now. The team is standing at 14-14, currently the seventh seed in the East, and to most people’s surprise, they have a real shot at getting into the postseason.
Monroe has actually been a big part of that. He has found a niche as one of the most talented and productive substitutes in the NBA. Monroe is currently scoring 9.3 points per game and grabbing 6.8 rebounds in 19 minutes of playing time. His defense, while not a skill to hang his hat on, has been noticeably improved in his lowered minutes.
That could mean a couple of things. Milwaukee could see value in Greg Monroe as they get ready for a playoffs run in which they try to avoid the Cavaliers in the first round and decide to keep the center. Or, the Bucks will choose to trade the big man while he is at his peak value, with one more year under contract, as a player option he is likely to opt into.
