Rep. Devin Nunes of California formally stepped away from his legislative duties on Monday. As expected, Nunes will leave Congress and lead Donald Trump’s new media and technology imprint, Trump Media & Technology Group. The former U.S. representative issued a letter that was read during a pro forma session on Monday morning.
“The honorable, the speaker, House of Representatives, madam, I write to inform you that I have notified California Gov. Gavin Newsom of my resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives effective today at 11:59 p.m.,” the letter reads.
“It has been the honor of my life to represent the people of California’s San Joaquin Valley for the last 19 years.”
Nunes served 10 terms in Congress before his departure. During his time in the nation’s capital, he was a member of the House Intelligence Committee and he had an opportunity to become chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. However, he feels that his new position will provide an “opportunity to fight for the most important issues.”
