It’s safe to say that U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not the biggest supporter of the impeachment inquiry regarding President Joe Biden. Led by Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the inquiry seeks to explore allegations that the president and his son, Hunter Biden, inappropriately benefitted from foreign business deals. Wasting no time, the New York-based congresswoman called the inquiry an “embarrassment” to Congress and the American public.
“This is an embarrassment to the time and people of this country and I would ask that the chair and I would ask that this Committee elevate to the promise of our duties here and comport ourselves with the consistency and practice that is required of our seats and our duty,” she told her colleagues.
During the hearing, Ocasio-Cortez raised issues with a screenshot of a text message that was presented by Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida. As explained by popular podcast host and attorney Robert J. DeNault, the screenshot “cut key parts of a text message [exchange] to make it look like a Biden relative would get Joe Biden to help with Hunter’s business. But [the] full message shows they are talking about Hunter’s alimony, living situation, etc.”
“That screenshot of what appeared to be a text message was a fabricated image,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
“I don’t know where it came from. I don’t know if it was the staff of the committee, but it was not the direct screenshot from that phone.”
