Regular Slot Games or Progressive Slots?

  • February 9, 2023

Slot Machine

There are thousands – if not tens of thousands – of different online slot games for players to enjoy. They come in all shapes and sizes, with different themes. They even come in different game formats, with the reels playing differently. One of the most highly sought-after types of online slots though is progressive jackpots.

Today we’re going to see who progressive jackpots or regular slots are better for, the difference between them and more. Both of these types of games can be found on the casinos listed at slotsource.ca, so once you’ve made your choice you know where you can find them! Let’s get into it:

Regular slot games

Whilst we call them regular slots, that doesn’t mean they’re any worse than progressive jackpot slots. These types of regular slots come in a wide variety – from your standard 3-reel classic style to branded games such as the American Dad slot.

Regular online slots can include a whole heap of different features and functions, including some that are more advanced and special bonuses that can snag you generous wins. These can include jackpot wins that can be quite big, even though they aren’t progressive.

With these regular slot machines, the highest amount you can win is usually based on how much you wager. The max payout on a slot game that isn’t progressive offers much smaller than you can potentially win on a progressive game – that’s because they’re a fixed jackpot.

The fixed jackpot means the prize amounts are locked to a certain amount and never change, no matter how many times a previous player has claimed that prize. The prize amounts that can be won by the player are usually fixed to whatever amount they wager multiplied by a certain amount. So an example may be a slot game having a top prize of 500x wager. This means that the player is actually in control of how much they could possibly win – they could wager max which would mean that the jackpot p[rize is increased.

These regular slot games are usually the bulk of any online casino or land-based venue’s slot portfolio. There’s a huge variety of different games, so there’s a great choice for players to play and enjoy.

Progressive Jackpot Slots

Whilst regular slot games have their appeal with various mechanics, themes and bonus rounds, a huge chunk of players are tempted by the thought of playing progressive jackpots.

Progressive jackpot slots are incredibly similar to regular slot games – down to the different reel mechanics and paylines – except they offer the chance for any player to win some sort of progressive jackpot prize.

The only real thing that differentiates a jackpot progressive game from a regular slot game is the way that the jackpot prize is created. As we stated above, with regular slot games there’s a fixed maximum prize, which is based on the amount a player wagers. Progressive jackpot prizes are never fixed, they’re constantly changing, and this is due to the way they’re accumulated.

Progressive jackpots take a small slice of every bet made on that machine and contribute it towards one single prize pool. This slice isn’t just taken from the one slot machine – bets made on that slot at any online casino are added. This can mean that tens of thousands in prize money is added to the jackpot every single day. This means that the maximum prize that can be had on progressive jackpots often works its way up into the millions!

This sounds all good and dandy, but the downside comes from the volatility of the game – these progressive jackpots are often highly volatile, meaning players win prizes less often overall. Winning the maximum jackpot is also often only possible when a player gets incredibly lucky with numerous bonus rounds, although some games have progressive jackpots that can be won randomly.

Which game is best for you?

Whilst we can’t give you a straight-up answer, it mainly depends on your play style. If you enjoy a more relaxed gameplay style and like just playing to relax and unwind, then the lower volatility style of regular slot games may be better. With these, you can chill out, enjoy more frequent smaller wins and not have to focus as much.

If you’re more focused and are hopefully aiming for a big win, then maybe you should check out some jackpot progressive games. You’ll win less often and need to be more focused on the game, but you could be in with the chance to win a life-changing amount of money.
