Romantic guitars, compelling drums and an allegiance to honesty paint the landscape of Reggie Becton’s newest single, “Bad M’fkr.” The Maryland native living under California palm trees teamed up with Edgar Etienne and Deandra Stegall to tell the story of a man who once believed he was impervious to heartbreak, but has come to terms with the realization that his significant other played with his emotions.
“I’m still down when you call me,” he sings.
“I’m sleeping in the danger zone. I couldn’t see the lies you told. One look could turn me into stone. I woke up and I still want more.”
In many ways, “Bad M’fkr” pulls listeners back to the conundrum that was present throughout Sadboy Vol. 1. In fact, the emerging vocalist kicks off the EP by singing, “I won’t blink twice. I won’t be fooled.” By the seventh track, Reggie Becton is ready to let go, but has second thoughts when he gets to “Call” with Nana. While it would be easy to chastise Reggie Becton’s back and forth with love and those who continue to do him wrong, he’s like a lot of us in many ways. We know that certain people may be bad for us, but we continue to come back. Thankfully, this song — “Bad M’fker” — is not bad for us to come back to time and time again. Check out the full track below and be on the lookout for Reggie Becton’s follow-up to Sadboy Vol. 1 in the future.
