Issa Rae and HBO are ready to begin a new chapter with the launch of their latest series, Rap Sh!t. One year after Insecure came to an emotional ending, HBO and Rae have rolled out the first trailer for the new series.
“Created by Issa Rae, Rap Sh!t follows two estranged high school friends from Miami, Shawna and Mia, who reunite to form a rap group,” the trailer’s description reads.
Aida Osman and KaMillion will take center stage as Shawna and Mia. DomiNque Perry, Brittany Jefferson and Jonica Booth will also take on recurring roles throughout the first season. Rounding out the team, Kevin “Coach K” Lee, Pierre “P” Thomas, Caresha “Yung Miami” Romeka and Jatavia “JT” Johnson will serve as executive producers.
“This is kind of like my sophomore album—I consider Awkward Black Girl as my mixtape and Insecure my first album. So with this one, there is pressure, but I’m really excited about it. I hope that people have an open mind—it’s such a fun show,” Rae said about the upcoming series, according to VIBE.
Rae’s new series is set to premiere at the America Black Film Festival this weekend, but it will not hit HBO Max until later this summer. Check out the teaser below.
