After giving the Wizards some big minutes down the stretch of the season after John Wall was injured, Ramon Sessions finds himself in a perfect situation in Washington as he enters a contract year. Sessions’ contract will expire at the end of the season, and making big contributions to Washington in 2015-16 could mean send big money or even a starting job his way next offseason.
With a salary of $2.17 million next season, having a taste of the money should have Sessions wanting more. With a breakout season next year a possibility, an even larger contract may be in his future.
Sessions will be the backup point guard for the Wizards next season assuming they do not take somebody else in the draft. On Monday, Washington will host a workout for 6 different players, 4 of which are guards. If this is any indication towards which position the Wizards are looking to take in the draft, it could be bad news for Sessions, but they could still fill a larger need a center instead if another prospect surprises them.
Next year could not be any more perfect for the point guard. He finds himself a member of a team on the cusp of becoming great while also being in the perfect situation to earn himself a sizeable contract. The extra motivation for being in a contract year will really help Sessions perform better next year, creating another piece to add to Washington’s title run.
