Vladimir Putin cannot vote in the upcoming presidential election, but he would prefer to work with one candidate more than the other. During a recent interview, the Russian President said he’d prefer a United States led by Joe Biden rather than Donald Trump.
“[Biden] is a more experienced, predictable person. He is a politician of the old school,” Putin said.
“But we will work with any leader of the United States, who is trusted by the American people.”
Putin didn’t stop there. He also refuted speculation that Biden’s cognitive abilities were declining.
“When I met with Biden in Switzerland — it was, indeed, a few years ago, three years — even then there were talks about him being incompetent. I saw nothing of the sort. Yes, he glanced at his notes. Honestly, I glanced at mine too,” he continued.
Putin’s comments about President Joe Biden and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump arrive less than a month after he claimed previous presidential elections in the U.S. were rigged.
“In the United States, previous elections were falsified through postal voting … they bought ballots for $10, filled them out, and threw them into mailboxes without any supervision from observers, and that’s it,” Putin said without providing further evidence to support his claim.
Putin has never shied away from commenting on politics in the U.S. when asked. However, the White House has not appeared too thrilled when Putin makes comments regarding U.S. political matters.
“Mr. Putin should stay out of America’s elections,” White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said.
