It has been a tough time for the world as natural disasters have destroyed land all over the Carribean and parts of the United States. Houston was under water following Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma destroyed the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and parts of Florida and just this week alone an earthquake hit Mexico killing an estimated 273 and Hurricane Maria ran through Puerto Rico and left the entire island without power for months and many without connections to their family across the globe.
Over the past month, athletes from many sports have stepped up to help out these areas impacted by these natural disasters. J.J. Watt raised $37 million to help Houston, Tim Duncan has traveled to the Virgin Islands to help provide relief to his native land and now Puerto Rican athletes are stepping up to help out their people.
Puerto Rico has battled two category four hurricanes in the last three weeks alone. Now their native sons and daughters are asking people to help out in the relief efforts. Let’s take a look at who has setup funds and how you can help the relief efforts.
Carmelo Anthony
While Carmelo Anthony might be a member of Team USA when it comes to Olympics basketball play, Anthony has connected with his Puerto Rican roots on multiple occassions. He owns a soccer team in Puerto Rico and has also helped rebuild some parks and basketball courts around the island. He’s asking for people to help him donate to the relief efforts.
I’ve set up a @YouCaring page to aid the relief efforts in Puerto Rico. We need your help in this fight.
