Just two weeks ago, the world lost Afeni Shakur, the mother to the late rap legend, Tupac Shakur. Afeni, who was much more than just Pac’s mom, passed away on May 2 from an apparent heart attack. Just like her son, Afeni was cremated in California.
The Daily News has learned from a source close to them, that in the upcoming weeks, there will be a memorial service taking place to honor Afeni. The memorial service will take place at the farm she grew up on in Lumberton, North Carolina. The service will be private and for her friends and family.
George Pryce, Afeni’s former publicist released a statement to the Daily News in regards to his last encounter with Afeni.
Afeni called me and told me she had something very important to tell me, and that if I couldn’t come up to Sausalito in the next few days that she would come down to Los Angeles to see me,” he said. “I have no idea what she wanted to discuss with me. I was preparing to go up there when I got the call late that Sunday night that she had died at the hospital after being found unresponsive at home.”
“She was not only my client, but became a dear friend,” he added. “I actually met her in Washington, D.C., before I met Tupac. We traveled to London, New York and many other places together. I will always wonder what was on her mind that week. May she rest in peace.”
