Pras, a founding member of Hip-Hop Soul group The Fugees, reportedly indicted on federal fraud charges for presidential campaign contributions.
The Department of Justice announced on May 10 Prakazrel “Pras” Michel faces campaign finance criminal charges. A four-count indictment against both Pras and Malaysian businessman Jho Low claims the two conspired to use foreign funding to a 2012 presidential election campaign.
TMZ reports, although the indictment does not list former President Barack Obama by name, it details Pras’ donations for a candidate in the 2012 election and lists dates where the artist posed for photos with the candidate. Pras faces charges of conspiracy, making a false statement and two counts of false entry on record.
Pras’ attorney Barry J. Pollack tells Pitchfork that Pras remains headstrong amidst the legal action.
“Mr. Michel is extremely disappointed that so many years after the fact the government would bring charges related to 2012 campaign contributions. Mr. Michel is innocent of these charges and looks forward to having the case heard by a jury,” says Pollack.
