Power‘s fifth season has been a series of highs, lows and unanswered questions. As we enter into week seven of Power‘s newest season, we have more of the same. There’s so much going on in the world of Power that it’s hard to keep track of. As it relates to the St. Patricks, we’re seeing a lot more of the same. They’re together on paper and in crime, but not much else. Ghost is trying to make good on his promise to Raina and the Reverend. He’s apologizing to Angela, making amends with Councilman Tate and making deals with Dre. Not to mention, he’s even shutting out Tommy’s business from his own for the time being. However, he seems to be further putting himself in a corner of his own. As Ghost becomes clean, everyone else is further becoming a criminal. Tariq is selling pills, Kanan is beating up wealthy white men, Tommy is pushing drugs into prison and Alicia Jimenez is plotting to kill her own brother.
With everyone doing wrong and playing beyond the rules, Tasha appears to be in a position of strength. No one suspects Tariq of any wrongdoing and she’s being offered full immunity. Not to mention, she’s got a new man with a good job. Courtney Kemp Agboh and company do a good job of painting Tasha as the one in charge, but there’s one hole in her cover-up. Tasha St. Patrick has simply left one man who has the ability to mess up her life and moved in with another. Terry Silver has known Tasha for a season, but she now trusts him with her freedom. While it’s clear that Terry Silver has feelings for Tasha, it’s not clear that he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her and her family. With Ghost at her side, Tasha knew that even if he was with Angela that his freedom was her freedom. With Silver at her side, Tasha should not be as certain of her future as she was with Ghost. At any moment, Silver could say that he’s not willing to go that far and leave her high and dry. Not to mention, he’s not implicated in any of the major crimes that Tasha and Jamie have committed. In just a season and a half, Terry Silver has gone from a fill in for Proctor to one of the most powerful characters. He has access to all of the inside information through Tasha. In many ways, he’s Angela without the legal obligation to turn in his significant other. Silver is the new gold in the fifth season of Power.
