The Pittsburgh Pirates capitalized on a spike in trade value from Corey Dickerson after shipping him to the Philadelphia Phillies the day after he produced a two home-run game. Dickerson is headed to the Phillies in exchange for cash considerations in the international bonus pool as well as a player to be named later (PTBNL).

The Pirates recently had an incident with the Cincinnati Reds resulting in Yasiel Puig and Amir Garrett in a huge brawl after tension continue to remain high between the two teams. Puig’s final send-off from the Reds came in the form of this brawl between the Reds and Pirates, in a game where Dickerson smashed two bombs. Also involved was Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez who was speculated to be traded but ended up staying put with the Pirates back-end.
In forty-three games this season for the Bucco’s, Dickerson has slashed .317/.556/.931 with 4 home runs and 25 RBI for a struggling Pirates team. The Phillies acquire Dickerson in a move that provides them with more depth in case of any injuries. In a depth move, they only sacrificed some cash in the international bonus pool as well as a PTBNL who will most likely be of less value to the Pirates (now) than Dickerson whenever the player does get sent.
Bringing in Dickerson allows the Phillies with even more options defensively in the outfield as well as another left-handed bat. Manager Gabe Kapler will be able to use Dickerson as a situational hitter or start him in certain situations as the Phillies are hoping to catch the first place Atlanta Braves who also made some moves this trade deadline.
