The Portland Trail Blazers have had a very, very rough offseason. They lost 80 percent of their starting lineup in Wesley Matthews, Nicolas Batum, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Robin Lopez who took their talents to the Dallas Mavericks, Charlotte Hornets, San Antonio Spurs, and New York Knicks respectively. The only remaining starter is stud point guard Damian Lillard.
Portland needs all the help they can get, especially since they’re in the loaded Western Conference, even if it’s just a minor signing. The Blazers went out and did that last night when they signed back up guard Phil Pressey. I know it’s not earth-shattering but at least it’s something. Pressey played his last two seasons with the Boston Celtics, and was cut just a couple days ago after going undrafted out of Missouri. He didn’t get many chances to show what he can do at this level, but we have seen some flashes from the young guard.
Pressey will surely play a substantially larger role with Portland than he did in Boston. He’ll most likely be expected to provide major minutes off the bench and be Lillard’s primary back up. Hopefully we see the third year man have a break out season with a great deal of success now that he will get a better chance to prove that he belongs.
