Knicks president Phil Jackson, is entering the biggest off-season in his tenure as team president.
While clearing cap space for the team after re-signing Carmelo Anthony last off-season. Phil Jackson looks to finally get the New York Knicks on the right track which starts with not only drafting the right players, but getting the right players on the roster through free agency as well.
Phil Jackson discussed with Ian Begley of ESPN New York:
Jackson made it clear that he’s committed to running his triangle offense — and he will recruit players based on their ability to fit the system.
“I don’t think the offensive system has to take a back seat to anything we do,” Jackson said. Later, he added: “Players who are resistant to it shouldn’t be here.”
Jackson delivered another not-so-subtle message to potential free agents when he talked about branding.
“We’re not interested in guys who are just interested in the money and in their branding. They have to have a little more to their life than just those selfish desires,” Jackson said.
Jackson has the right mindset, and he seems to be doing everything right with getting rid of big salaries on the team along with players that don’t fit the system.
The Knicks are committed to the triangle offense and I’ll give Fisher and Jackson credit they’ve endured a horrid regular season, but look to right the ship this off-season.
If Phil can make a big splash this off-season by hitting a homerun with the number four pick, and getting some key players to go alongside a hopefully healthy Carmelo Anthony maybe Phil Jackson will receive some executive of the year votes.
