There will not be an easy solution to the tension building between Kristaps Porzingis and the New York Knicks organization.
After Porzingis skipped his exit meeting with Phil Jackson, Jackson decided enough was enough and he needed answers from Porzingis. There is one slight issue, though, Porzingis flew to Latvia right after the end of the NBA’s regular season to compete in the Euroleague championships.
So, Jackson settled for the next best thing, his brother, Janis Porzingis.
According to the New York Daily News, the meeting did not accomplish what Jackson had hoped for, which was to find out why Porzingis skipped his exit interview. The specific details of their discussion have not been released, per NYDN.
After the Knicks rough season, it seems that Kristaps has been having a rough few months. Not only did he tease the whole world through his Los Angeles Clippers tweet (he claims that he was hacked) but he has caused the whole city of New York to panic because he missed his exit interview.
Even though Kristaps has said he would like to stay with the Knicks, it is becoming increasingly harder to believe he stays in New York for the long run. Jackson has made it clear that he intends to have a bigger influence over the coaching staff and will enforce the triangle to the nth degree. In addition to Jackson’s meddling, the Knicks fired Josh Longstaff, whom Porzingis was close with.
The city of New York should be up in arms about how the Knicks are taking care of their future star player.
