Pelicans rookie guard Frank Jackson will be sidelined approximately three-to-four months after undergoing surgery on Friday, the team announced.
Jackson underwent surgery to repair a fractured right foot:
New Orleans Pelicans guard Frank Jackson sustained a right foot fracture (fifth metatarsal), it was determined following examination by Pelicans Director of Medical Services/Head Team Physician Dr. Misty Suri. The injury occurred while Jackson was training in New Orleans.
Jackson underwent successful surgery today by Dr. Martin O’Malley in New York, NY and is expected to miss approximately 3-4 months. Jackson previously underwent a procedure in May to correct a stress reaction in the same location.
The Pelicans lost forward Solomon Hill after he underwent surgery to repair a torn hamstring last week. He’s expected to miss six-to-eight months.
With Jackson and Hill set to miss extended time, the Pelicans have shifted their focus towards acquiring backcourt depth and have interest in Cavs guard Iman Shumpert, according to Basketball Insiders.
Jackson, who turned 19 in May, was drafted No. 31 overall by the Pelicans out of Duke.
New Orleans currently sports a likely starting backcourt of Jrue Holiday, 27, and Rajon Rondo, who the team signed to a free-agent contract in July.
