Paul Pierce has had a long, illustrious career. He was one of the best players in the league during his prime, and he guided his Boston Celtics team to an NBA Championship during the 2008 season. He also won the Finals MVP that season. Now, he is a valuable veteran player to whatever team he is on. He came up clutch during last seasons playoffs for the Washington Wizards, and this year he played a veteran role for Doc Rivers’ Los Angeles Clippers team.
Pierce is a free agent this summer, so will he retire or return? Well, he told Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe what he may do:
Paul Pierce also tells the Globe, if he returns for a 19th season, it will definitely be his last. #Celtics#Clippers

Let’s get this straight: Pierce does not know whether or not he will play next season. He may very well retire this summer, but if he does return, he will sign a one year deal and retire after that. He has one season left in the tank if he plays. If he retired today, he would averaged 20.0 PPG for his career, nearly 5 RPG, and nearly 4 APG. Pierce played the majority of his career for the Celtics, who drafted him, and he has played for the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, and Los Angeles Clippers the past 3 years.
It would be nice to see Pierce sign with the Celtics for one more year so he can finish his career a Celtic, kind of like what his former teammate Kevin Garnett did with the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was reported that he would finish his career with the Clippers earlier this season though. Either way, Pierce’s career has been an incredible one, and when he will retires, it will be celebrated.
