Whether you love the Truth or not, it is certainly going to hurt seeing one of the greatest Celtics to ever to play, hang up his sneakers. As we all know it’s never fun to see a Championship player retire, and Paul Pierce is considering it. Paul Pierce has been a godsend for the Wizards, and he has undoubtedly played a huge role in them getting this deep into the 2015 NBA Playoffs. If he choses to retire the mental toughness that he brought to the locker room will need to be replaced, and that will not be an easy task for the Washington Wizards.
Last night was unquestionably a painful loss for the Washington Wizards, after making huge run late in the 4th quarter against the Atlanta Hawks. Wizards fans felt that Paul Pierce had saved them from the abyss once again, and with time winding down in the fourth quarter of Game 6 Friday night, The Truth heaved up a three-pointer that would have sent the game into overtime. However after official review the shot wasn’t good, and there would be no Game 7 to be played on Monday.
“Truthfully, what was going through my mind is, I don’t have too much of these efforts left, if any,”
Pierce said.
“These rides throughout the NBA season, throughout the playoffs, are very emotional. They take a lot out of not only your body, but your mind, your spirit. I don’t even know if I’m going to play basketball anymore. I’m never going to have no regrets, whether I hang it up now or later, I know that people who have been around me all these years know that Paul Pierce came every day, left it out there every day. I know I left everything out there.”
According to the Washington Post, Pierce has a $6 million player option for next season, and he will consult with his children, his wife and his mother before he decides to play for Washington, or whether he will play at all. Afterward, Pierce told his teammates,
“I’ll go to war with you any time. But time may be up for The Truth.”
This was still a good season for Pierce and that will most definitely play a role on if he will decide to try again next year. If Pierce does call it a career and hangs up the sneakers, he didn’t go down without making sure that we all remember who he is. So if Paul Pierce does choose to retire I’m going to be rocking my Celtics cap for a major part of the summer.
