Paul George is not short in any confidence. The Indiana Pacers’ superstar recently sat down with Sam Amick of USA Today Sports, in an interview that led to some confident remarks. George, who missed most of last season after breaking his leg in a Team USA scrimmage last summer, believes that he will be coming back at full strength this season.
Honestly, I feel like I’m better than the Paul George I was (before). I do understand that I’m coming back as a fresh new player, with a new team, but I’m not limiting myself. I still have the aspiration of being the MVP, still have the aspiration of being one of the best defenders, one of the best scorers in the league. All of that is still there. But now I just feel like I’m much … wiser. I’m a better ballhandler, a better playmaker. I just feel like everything is just enhanced having a year out from the game
When healthy, George was certainly one of the better players on the league, especially making his mark as an elite wing defender. If George does feel that he will come back better than before, then we could be in for a truly fantastic season from the newly christened power-forward. George certainly thinks so as he responded with the following when asked who the best player in the league going into the season is:
Myself. I honestly feel that this is my time to prove it. There’s always going to be people’s opinions. There’s always going to be people thinking otherwise. But this is my time to prove it, and I’m ready. I’m ready to show the world.
That’s a bold statement from George. But he may be ready to go out and prove it.
