Patrick Robinson is heading back to New Orleans to play for the organization that drafted him. The Saints lock up Robinson’s services on a four-year, $20 million deal which includes $10 million guaranteed and a $5 million signing bonus. Ian Rapoport broke the news on Twitter this afternoon and Mike Garofolo followed up with some contract information.
This is a surprise: #Eagles CB Patrick Robinson, due to be a free agent in 2 hours, is expected to sign a 4-year deal with the #Saints. Back where it all began.

Before Rapoport reported the deal, there was reports of Robinson and the Eagles working on a contract extension.
The #Eagles and Patrick Robinson got close on a contract extension on Monday. Then stalled. … then his window opened. And the #Saints jumped in and locked him down. He’s a former #Saints first round pick.

Robinson, 30, was selected with the 32nd overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft by the Saints. He spent his first 5 years in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints before bouncing around to three teams in as many seasons (Chargers, Colts, Eagles). Last season Robinson started 8 games for the Philadelphia Eagles. Robinson also started in the super bowl while capturing the 1st ring of his career this past season.
Despite not missing a game last season, Robinson has had some health issues in his career. Robinson has never played in all 16 regular season games in back to back seasons. In 2013 Robinson only appeared in two games and in 2016 he only appeared in seven.
Robinson is probably going to be asked to play inside, where he’s at his best. He is joining a secondary that includes the reigning defensive rookie of the year, cornerback Marshon Lattimore. This is another move made by the Saints to strengthen their defense through free agency. Earlier in the day they signed linebacker Demario Davis.
