On January 29, 2023, Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to another AFC Championship and punched their ticket to Glendale, Arizona for Super Bowl LVII. Throwing for two touchdowns, he completed 67% of his passes for 315 yards. While Mahomes’ play was heroic, he dealt with pain throughout the game after suffering an ankle injury. Fortunately, he has had an extra week to recover before he and his teammates put it all on the line for their second title in three years. Leading up to the big game, Chiefs Owner Clark Hunt offered an update regarding his star quarterback’s injury.
“The great thing is Patrick’s a very fast healer, and he was able to get ready to play the AFC Championship Game, you know, in a week on that high ankle sprain and did just an amazing job, including making the pivotal play at the end of the game that helped us win it on his legs,” Hunt said.
“He’s doing great this week. I don’t know that he’ll be 100 percent, but he sure isn’t going to tell you otherwise.”
Mahomes has also backed away from making any definitive statements regarding his ankle. Instead, he’s said that he’s prepared to “leave it all on the line.”
“I’m gonna push it. I’ll try to leave it all on the line,” Mahomes said.
“I think you all saw that in the last game that I played. But it’s about relying on your teammates — and I got a lot of great teammates around me — and not trying to do too much. But I’ll definitely be in a better spot than I was last game.”
Mahomes will lead the Kansas City Chiefs onto the field at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on February 12, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. ESt.
