As another unsuccessful season for the New York Knicks comes to an end, the time to start building for next season has already started. They’re playing the younger guys a lot more and with no picks in the 2016 NBA Draft, they have to start developing their prospects to see what they have for the future.
One necessary evil is going to be the selection of the next head coach after the firing of Derek Fisher earlier this year. Interim head coach Kurt Rambis has been slated as the favorite to take over on a permanent basis but a Knicks legend has made it known on more than one occasion that he wants to be considered as the next head coach for the organization.
Following from Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.
“You know, this is a great fit for me. I have my number up there (in the Garden rafters). I still live in the area,” Ewing said. “If I get an opportunity for an interview I’d be happy.”
“I’ve been doing this, what, 13 years now? I see people who don’t have the same amount on their resume as I do and still have gotten opportunities,” Ewing said Wednesday.
Ewing also made it known recently on a podcast with Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical on Yahoo! Sports that he not only wants to be considered for the Knicks head coaching position but also all over the NBA.
The Knicks should absolutely give the legendary figure a chance to at least interview and give him the job, especially if it comes down to him and Kurt Rambis. Rambis had his time as a head coach in the NBA and he hasn’t produced any favorable results, it’s time to give a new guy a chance and who better than one of the most legendary members of your organization.
