The Houston Rockets may have suffered a huge loss before the start of the season. According to Calvin Watkins of ESPN, the team may be without one of its starting guards for some time:
Houston Rockets starting shooting guard Patrick Beverley might have surgery on his left knee, according to a source.
Beverley has missed the past four preseason games with knee irritation.
Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni told reporters Tuesday that he is not counting on Beverley for the season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 26.
This could be a huge issue for the Rockets. The team is already looking to be weak on the defensive end of the floor. Beverley’s loss will be felt tremendously there (after all he’s very tough and don’t you forget it), if he does indeed have to go through with surgery.
Offensively, the Rockets can mitigate the loss. James Harden was billed to be the “point guard,” anyway, playing as a ball-dominant lead guy. Houston can get Beverley’s ability to knock down open shots from the likes of Eric Gordon without much problem.
Nevertheless, Patrick Beverley’s injury seems to be significant. Any surgery will probably result in a long amount of time lost. The Rockets will be in a long fight for the postseason and any significant injuries may be brutal.
We will update the post as more details become clear.
