As an award for completely zoning out and losing his defender on March 3rd when the Wizards lost to Chicago, Otto Porter was given this season’s Shaqtin’ A Fool MVP. It may not be his best accomplishment, but not every player can say they were given recognition directly from Shaquille O’Neal.
Washington went on to lost the game by 5, and Porter was considered a major cause for the loss. The Wizards were only down by 3 points at the time of the play, and ended up giving up an offensive rebound to Pau Gasol, who went on to sink two consecutive free throws. Washington was then down 5.

The final three for the MVP award were Thunder guard Dion Waiters, Suns guard Brandon Knight, and the eventual champion Otto Porter. Next season, Porter will try his best to keep himself from awards such as this. With his improved defense shown in the playoffs, mishaps like this won’t become a regularity.
