Columbia Pictures has released the official plot synopsis for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man.’ In case you forgot, this is not a sequel to the Sam Raimi trilogy but a complete re-imagining of the Spider-Man material. While this idea has put a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths, I say why not? Sure it’s kind of soon to be reviving the franchise but the 3rd film in Raimi’s series totally turned me off to his universe and I’m ready for something fresh. Besides, I’m totally stoked for Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone!
“The Amazing Spider-Man” is the story of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
I have to admit connecting Curt Connors to the disappearance to Parker’s parents is a very interesting direction to take the film in. I was a little nervous this would be an exact replica of the first movien but it looks like we will actually be getting something totally new and different. Color me intrigued.
‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ hits theaters in 3D and 2D on July 3rd, 2012.
