Frank Cali of the Gambino Crime Family was murdered in front of his home on Wednesday night. Cali was shot ten times and then hit with a moving motor vehicle. His wife and kids were allegedly inside the home and immediately responded to the incident. Cali was officially pronounced dead not long afterwards.
Over the weekend, the New York Police Department made their first arrest in the ongoing murder investigation of Cali. Authorities have taken in a twenty-four year old man by the name of Anthony Comello. Comello was arrested in New Jersey on Saturday evening and moved to State Island where he was officially charged with murder.
Authorities don’t believe Comello has any connection to the Gambino Crime Family. According to a report from CNN, “Cali’s killing does not appear to be mob-related, a source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN on Sunday.” However, NYPD has yet to reveal how Comello became a suspect in the murder.
After the arrest was made, Dermot Shea of the NYPD stated, “While we believe we have the shooter in custody for this incident, the investigation is far … from over.” He added, “The investigation will turn to were other parties involved in this, gathering future and additional evidence and working on the motive for this particular crime.”
