As they gear up for their playoff run with 20 games left on their regular-season schedule, the Denver Nuggets have added some guard depth in the form of free agent Troy Daniels. According to a release from the team, the Nuggets have signed Daniels for the remainder of the season. Daniels was released by the Los Angeles Lakers just days ago.
Though Troy Daniels was a solid piece for the LA Lakers, the team released him to free up an extra roster spot. Daniels appeared in 41 games for the Lakers this season, averaging 4.2 points and 1.1 rebounds. The Lakers used their available roster spot on the recently bought-out Dion Waiters.
Daniels is a 7-year veteran who is known for his ability to stretch the floor and deliver from three-point range. For a playoff team looking to add any usable pieces possible ahead of the postseason, Daniels will add shooting off the bench to Denver’s already solid guard unit.
After going undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft following a four-year collegiate career at Virginia Commonwealth University, Daniels has carved out a solid career for himself. Expect him to immediately step in and serve as Denver’s fourth guard in their rotation behind Jamal Murray, Gary Harris and Monte Morris. Denver agreed to a contract buyout with Jordan McRae last week to clear the roster spot needed for Daniels.
