The North Carolina Tar Heels plan to honor former Head Coach Roy Williams on Saturday during the team’s match-up against the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Williams was a career 33-5 against North Carolina State during his time at North Carolina. The long-time Head Coach retired last year after the conclusion of the NCAA basketball season. He would then go on to help the school replace him with his assistant coach and former Tar Heel Guard Hubert Davis.

Roy Williams led the Tar Heels is likely the greatest era of Carolina basketball rivaled only by his mentor Dean Smith. His list of accomplishments are almost too long to list, but they do include three National Championships, three ACC Tournament Championships, and nine ACC regular-season championships. He was also named the AP Coach of the Year and USA TODAY coach of the year once each while at North Carolina.
Roy Williams is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame and has coached several NBA Players during his tenure with the North Carolina Tar Heels. During his coaching career, the program decided to honor the coach by naming the court inside the Dean E. Smith Center after Williams. The longtime North Carolina coach has attended every Tar Heels home game this season, but the University decided to honor the coach against the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
We here at Def Pen Sports continue to wish Coach Williams the best in his retirement.
