The Celebration Bowl down in Atlanta, Georgia was not the only showcase of HBCU athletic talent to take place this weekend. This Saturday, actor-director Michael B. Jordan partnered with Turner Sports and Invesco to host an HBCU basketball in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey.
“Through our shared love of basketball, I look forward to bringing the communal spirit of HBCUs to the city that helped shape me into the man I am today,” Jordan said about the event.
Leading the way, the Delaware State Hornets and the North Carolina Central Eagles shared the hardwood at the Prudential Center. Unfortunately, that’s all that they would share Saturday afternoon. The Eagles shot out to a 25-point lead in the first half and were up by as much as 40 during the game. Fortunately, Myles Carter and Dominik Fragala of Delaware State were able to close the gap to some degree by combining for 30 points seven rebounds. However, it was simply not enough as the Eagles dominated the Hornets from start to finish en route to a 33-point win.
Following the Eagles and Hornets, the Howard University Bison are set to take on the North Carolina A&T Aggies. Despite being four games under .500, the Aggies enter the game as 2.5 point favorites.
