After the release of her Bad Intentions EP, Niykee Heaton delivers this wonderful acoustic single, “Rain Dog.”
On ask.fm the songstress expounds on the inspiration behind “Rain Dog.”
“When I was little, my brother was telling me about the Tom Waits song called “Rain Dogs” and what it meant to him. He explained to me that when a dog runs away, it can usually smell its way back home. But sometimes, when a dog runs away, and it starts to rain; it washes away the scent trail, and the dog is lost, and cannot find its way home. It’s a “rain dog”. So, I was talking to this guy who I thought was really cool, and he was just gaining success in his career, and he let it go to his head. I saw how cocky and arrogant he was, because he truly believed he was the shit. And it’s fine to be confident, and bold; but he was demeaning and condescending to me because he thought he was “better”. And I took a step back and realized, yeah, you’re hot now, you have success, money, hoes, you have it all right now. But when it comes down to it, when it comes down to what really matters in life; you’re just a cocky little shit, who treats people badly because you let fame to to your head. And when the rain comes down, and washes it all away; you really have nothing. You’re lost. You’re just a rain dog.”
