The Alabama Crimson Tide has landed former five-star guard and Texas Tech Red Raider Nimari Burnett. He decided to transfer away from Texas Tech after playing just 12 games for the program. This could be a phenomenal pickup for Head Coach Nate Oats who is attempting to build a powerhouse program with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Burnett didn’t seem to gel well with the Red Raiders and can hopefully find his footing under Oats with Alabama.
The Tide get a guy that they absolutely loved — and almost landed — at the high school ranks. Nate Oats adds a five-star and a former McDonald’s All-American this week.

Burnett only played 12 games in his freshman year and averaged just 17.7 minutes per game. He also averaged 5.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game in that time. The freshman shot rather poorly at just 28 percent from the field and 17.4 percent from three. It became clear he was frustrated with his role when he decided to leave the Texas Tech program. A change of scenery should do the young guard some good and hopefully help him capture some of that five-star magic. Nate Oats has proven himself as a coach that is capable of bringing the best out of his players.
Burnett was a five-star athlete for a reason and he could add something special to the program. The COVID-19 rule this year will allow Burnett to maintain his eligibility from this past year. He will still have four years left to play for Alabama if he decides to do that. The fit at Texas Tech didn’t seem right and hopefully, things work out better with the Crimson Tide. Burnett could be a special college basketball player.
