Through four professional fights, Nico Ali Walsh was built himself as one of the more talked about young fighters in the sport of boxing. The middleweight fighter’s last name and star personality has put him in position to earn a deal with Top Rank and appear on ESPN multiple times. While the attention and hype may result in a few extra dollars, Ali Walsh has committed himself to the sport and plans to build his own legacy.
“I want to continue my grandfather’s legacy in the ring and outside the ring but while doing so I want to create my own path, a legacy of my own. Nobody will be able to do what my grandfather did, nobody will be able to reach the heights that he did, I don’t think,” Walsh said in April.
“So that’s not what I’m trying to do, I’m not trying to do the impossible. But even better, I’m trying to build off it and create my own thing.”
Ali Walsh took one step toward building his own legacy tonight. In his Las Vegas, Nevada debut, the Chicago, Illinois native passed his toughest test yet. With a record of 7-1, Alejandro Ibarra earned four consecutive victories heading into Saturday’s fight. However, his winning streak came to a close when Ali Walsh landed a clean right hand in the first round. Ibarra stumbled to the canvas and the referee stopped the action before he could reach a full count.
