Newly obtained footage from Vice News reportedly shows the moments directly after Breonna Taylor was shot in her apartment on March 13, 2020. The video appears to show former officer Brett Hankinson entering the apartment to ask about shell casings. Then, another officer appears and asks Hankinson to “back out” until the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Integrity Unit arrives.
This footage arrives just days after state officials announced that no officers would be charged with the death of Breonna Taylor. Hankinson is the only officer facing any criminal charges related to the March 13 incident. He is facing three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for firing shots that landed in nearby apartments. These charges carry a maximum of five years in prison and his bond has been set at $15,000. Outside of criminal charges, the Louisville Metro Police Department is currently conducting an internal investigation regarding the six officers involved in obtaining and executing the search warrant on March 13.
At this time, Hankinson’s attorney has not issued a public statement regarding the newly obtained video.
